Sarah is a weaver, spinner and sheep farmer from Lancashire. After completing a Foundation Degree in Textiles "over the border" in Bradford, she now weaves cushions, rugs and throws using locally sourced wool, and has had the fleece from her small flock of Border Leicester and BL-cross sheep spun up into yarn. As a supporter of the Campaign for Wool Sarah hopes to spread the awareness of this wonderful fibre, using it to create sustainable, eco-friendly, naturally fire-retardant products while also helping local farmers achieve a fairer return for their fleece. A member of the Bowland Guild of Spinners, Weavers and Dyers, she has also taken part in the Blackburn Flax Project, helping to spin locally grown flax into yarn, which has been used to create a tunic that is on display at Blackburn Museum and Art Gallery. She also forms part of the "Gathered Threads" collective, exhibiting work in Skipton and Keighley.
Carole first saw yarn hooking at a local agricultural show 30 years ago and has been 'hooked' every since! A passion for making became Hooked by Design where Carole creates designs - rugs, cushions and pictures and makes them into kits for others to have a go. The designs are striking, using gorgeous muted colours - but they are really quite easy to do - especially if using one of Carole's custom made Hooking Frames. If you come along to the stand - Carole will give you a demonstration of yarn hooking - which is like the age old method of hooking - but using a finer hooking tool, fine weave hessian and yarn. Happy hooking!
